Are you expecting your first baby this year?👶🏻 Becoming a new parent is very exciting and new. Lots of changes are happening. You’re pregnant, you’ve been to the doctor and had an ultrasound. You’ve announced it on social media. Everything is going well so now it’s time to start PLANNING for that little bundle of joy. But when do you need to book your baby’s first photo shoot?!? 📸 I got you! I’m sharing some helpful information for you when it comes to a baby’s newborn session.

SO WHEN DO YOU BOOK YOUR NEWBORN SESSION

To ensure ample time for scheduling and capturing the perfect moments, it’s best not to wait until the last minute. Newborn sessions typically last around two hours and are best scheduled within the first two weeks after the baby’s birth. Booking in advance allows for flexibility and ensures a stress-free experience. Of course, you are always welcome to reach out after baby is born to schedule if you are just now seeing this. Some photographers will be able to fit you in.

HOW DOES THE BOOKING PROCESS WORK

Using my studio as an example, the booking process involves contacting me and chatting about what you are looking for in your newborn photo session. Once we have decided to move along, the client will choose one session or to become a part of my membership program. My membership program offers extra perks by joining including discounted creative fees, discounted digital files and more! Then we make it official setting up a client portal for paperwork and payments, and securing the session with a creative fee and contract. The portal simplifies the administrative tasks, allowing parents to focus on scheduling the session within 48 hours of the baby’s birth.

HOW TO FIND THE RIGHT PHOTOGRAPHER FOR YOU

1. Find a Trusted Photographer: Seek an experienced photographer who is not only skilled in newborn sessions but also child and newborn-friendly.
2. Ask for Recommendations: Consult friends, family, Google, Facebook, or social media to gather recommendations and insights.
3. Ask Questions: Inquire about the photographer’s experience, style, and qualifications. Be confident in your choice by checking credentials.

Before finalizing your session, consider the following:

• Session Type: Determine if you want a posed baby-only session, one that includes family photos, or a lifestyle newborn session.
• Session Duration: Clarify how long the session will last and if there are options for extended sessions.
• Participants: Decide how many people will be in the photos and whether additional fees apply for extra participants.
• Date, Time, and Location: Set the date and time for your session and discuss whether it will take place in a studio or at home for a more lifestyle-oriented session.
• Scheduling Timeframe: Understand the time needed to schedule a newborn session, ensuring ample time to book before the baby arrives.
