I came across a great article on custom photography at www.ProfessionalChildPhotographer.com.
“Custom photography is more of a luxury than your entry level cookie cutter chain experience. Custom photography truly is not for everyone, it requires a level of commitment, investment in time and money, forethought and planning on the part of the subject/client and requires a larger time commitment for the photographer as well.”
I definitely agree with the time commitment. As a photographer, I put a ton of time into my photos. Usually, the photo shoot lasts an hour or so and there is travel time too. Then it’s another 3-4 hours of editing before the photos are presented to the client. A typical portrait session takes at least 6 hours. Other things I do include contacting the client, editing photos for printing, sending files off to print and getting prints to clients. Don’t forget all the preparation for the session such as props and scouting out the location.
Custom photography is just as it says “Custom”. Each session is different and looks different. I love shooting in unique locations with various backgrounds and lighting. It is much more exciting than the same old studio portraits you’ll find at JCPenney or Walmart.
